The term perennial refers to non-woody plants that live for more than two years and often much longer. This can be a confusing term as it’s more commonly being used in a wider context, such as “woody perennial” (e.g., Artemisia) and “evergreen perennial” (e.g., some grasses that stay evergreen though the winter). More standard examples of a perennial include many herbs such as oregano, black eyed Susan (Rudbekia species), and ferns.
